Brian Burton (Drums) -  refers to the seat behind his drum kit as "home." The majority of his life has been spent studying the art form that is drumming. Brian comes to Hipshack from Grand Rapids, MI where he spent his time  as acting "Head of Drum Instruction" at RIT Music. Brian attended the  Berklee College of Music. He graduated in 2001. While in Boston, he played with many groups both live and in the studio. He studied under Dave DiCenso, Rod Morgenstein, and Kenwood Dennard. In 1999, Brian was awarded the NHCMA Rising Star Instrumentalist of the year for his work with Brooke Starr. Scott McCloud (Electric Bass/Vocals) - has been performing in the United States as a full time musician for the past 20 years playing every style from jazz, funk, rock, reggae, rhythm & blues to country. After winning the Downbeat Magazine award for “Best Instrumental Jazz Soloist” (1992) and receiving his BM in Music Performance from Winthrop University (1994), he relocated to Dallas/FT Worth to earn his Masters Degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas (1998).

Upon returning from Texas in 1998, Scott assembled a group of local funk/jazz musicians known as the “Scott McCloud Group/Trio.” The “Scott McCloud Trio” CD was favorably reviewed by Jazz Times Magazine in it’s May 2000 Jam Band issue along other artists as Medeski Martin & Wood, Galactic and Soulive. In 1999 Scott assembled a new Jazz/Funk/Rock group called Hipshack. Hipshack went on to record 2 CD’s and perform around the United States with the United States Tennis Association.

Scott has performed and recorded with: jazz legend Slide Hampton, Wycliffe Gordon, Edwin McCain, University of North Texas Lab Bands, the Jon Thornton Swing Thing, the Beloved Praise Band, the Scott Jeffrey’s Band and the Mighty-Mighty Men among others.

 

 

 

Jeremy Shaw (Guitar/Vocals) -  is a performing, recording, and song-writing artist based in Charlotte, NC. He blends a wide variety of styles and traditions into his own unique sound. His guitar work ranges from acoustic finger-style to angular modern jazz. Jeremy studied composition and performance at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He has worked professionally with numerous acts and musicians throughout the north and southeast for over fifteen years.

 Jeremy has extensive studio recording experience and appears on many CD releases. He maintains a sizable student roster in Charlotte, NC. Jeremy was born in Utica and attended the Berklee College of Music, where he studied composition and performance. The thriving musical environment in Boston was a tremendous learning experience. Jeremy spent the next several years in Boston and has performed with members of Phish, G Love & Special Sauce, Moon Boot Lover, Soulive, Schleigho, and others, as they passed through Boston. After almost a decade in Boston, Jeremy moved back south eventually settling in Charlotte, NC, where he lives with his family.
